RSPB Birdwatch
If your looking for something to do this weekend, but don't have much money and really don't want to venture to far from home, then here is great FREE way to spend some time enjoying local wildlife AND help the RSPB with its annual winter birdwatch.
The idea is a simple one; that if thousands of people across the UK on the same weekend record what they see in their local park or own garden for 1 hour then all together this gives an excellent snapshot of the state of our bird population levels and this can then be compared with past birdwatch events to see how our nations birdlife is changing.
You can download a counting sheet on the RSPB website, and once you have done your duty then you can go back on to their site and submit your results online. It's a great event to do with children or for any budding bird spotter.
The results of the national survey will be published in March and the more people that get involved the more accurate the study will be and how satisfying it will be to know somewhere amongst the vast data will be results that you have compiled from your own little corner of the British Isles .
Happy Twitching!
