A New Look for the RHS London Flower Shows

9th October, 2008

The history of the shows…
The RHS London Flower Shows (LFS) are the longest running of all the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) flower shows. They started in 1862 when they were first held at the RHS garden in Kensington, but moved to the RHS Horticultural Halls when they were built in
1904, where they have remained ever since, establishing themselves as a mainstay of the RHS
traditions.

The future of the shows…
From 2009, the RHS London Flower Shows will be undergoing some exciting newdevelopments to create a whole new look to those seasonal spectacles.

The London shows, which will retain their status as being a gardener’s paradise in the heart of the city, will be reduced in number from seven to four bigger, stronger shows a year. Each
show will celebrate the diversity of plants and flowers of the seasons, and will also have an emphasis on the issues that face gardeners in their everyday life, from gardening with wildlife, to gardening in an urban environment.

17-18 February: RHS London Plant and Design Show
A show for gardeners with a desire for design. Ideas for urban gardens will be complemented by a spectacle of early spring flowering plants, which will provide eagerly awaited winter
colour for every gardener. Inspirational balcony displays will show city gardeners how to use their small spaces, and experts will be on hand to help visitors with their design questions and
queries.

21-22 March: RHS London Orchid Show
The show is an explosion of colour and style, with a luxurious display of orchids from around the world. Exhibitors from across the globe will bring their elegant plants to the heart of London, where visitors will be able to purchase plants of the highest quality, and ask advice
from the experts.

31 March - 1 April: RHS London Greener Gardening Show
A paradise for wildlife lovers, with plants and advice to turn any garden “wild”. The show will also boast a brightly coloured festival of spring flowers and plants, marking a finale to the spring season.

13-14 October: RHS London Autumn Harvest Show
A feast for the eyes and the stomach, with gorgeous displays of colourful fruit and vegetables.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to taste and buy seasonal plants and produce from a
range of food producers, all celebrating this plentiful season.
