Remember earlier in the year, when the

rain never stopped? Tenbury Wells was one of

the worst hit locations as the picturesque town

was submerged under floodwaters.

Thankfully things are just about back to

normality, in this picturesque market town in the

Malvern Hills. The surrounding countryside has

many cider orchards which is where the

mistletoe is harvested from. Mistletoe is a

parasitic plant, in that it relies on another plant,

in this case the apple tree for a place to grow.

Each year the town hosts annual Mistletoe

Auctions, where customers buy up the plants to

sell or decorate homes, restaurants etc.

(4th and 11th December. Timetabling will be

10.00am Wreaths, 11.00am Mistletoe & Holly,

1.00pm Christmas trees.) As well as the auctions a mistletoe festival now takes place, which begins on the 1st December. Which in case you didn't already know is 'National Mistletoe Day'!

The festival held this weekend includes festive music and food, the procession of the Mistletoe Queen, a Druidic Blessing,a visit from Santa Claus and the turning on of the towns lights. It sounds like a great event, and hopefully will bring a smile to all the Tenbury Wellingtons? who have had such a trying year. Visitors will no doubt be welcome and the extra business in the town might help local businesses after the expenses of the floods. Full details of the festival can be viewed here.

Tenbury Mistletoe Festival
