The Daily Telegraph Announces Andy Sturgeon As Its Garden Designer For The 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show

The Daily Telegraph’s garden for the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show will be designed by the internationally renowned garden designer Andy Sturgeon. The 2010 Daily Telegraph garden has been inspired by Andy’s extensive travels around the world. The contemporary gravel garden will bring together flavours of the Fynbos of the southern Cape, the Maquis shrubland of the Mediterranean, the Chaparral of California and Mexico, and the Matorral of central Chile. 

Andy Sturgeon said: “The planting brings an exotic atmosphere that is tempered with more familiar English garden plants which light up the garden with colour. The result is a garden that feels like it is from somewhere else yet nowhere specific.“Slicing through the garden, cor-ten steel screens will fuse architectural and sculptural qualities to define spaces and control views within the garden. As visitors move along the linear natural stone paths these views are ever changing with controlled vistas and glimpses of the garden beyond.”

The garden will also feature open clearings of sparsely planted gravel which provide places to pause and linger. A courtyard will receive the shade of a stately cork oak and the sound of running water will make this a contemplative space. He is one of the most original designers in the country today”. The Daily Telegraph Garden will once again occupy a prime site on the Main Avenue at the 2010 RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
