A Christmas Wish - Spring Bulb Catalogue Santa Please!
Writing this last article last week would have seemed a bit strange as the ground was thick with frost and ice. However, only a couple of days until Christmas and the weather up here at G&G HQ in the North East is almost spring like. (It seems like Santa Claus might not need his snow tyres this year for his sleigh), so writing about spring garden bulbs doesn't seem so out of place.
Bright colours are the fashion tip for 2009 and so www.dejager.co.uk is bringing in new and exciting colourful bulbs in to their spring and summer ranges. Among the brightly coloured and unusual bulbs is the tacca ingrifolia, a relative of the Bat Plant that makes visitors to Wisley’s new greenhouse stop, stare and click their cameras.
“We are continuing to develop the de Jager offer,” says owner, George Clowes. “P. de Jager & Sons has always had a reputation for top size, top quality bulbs, lots of varieties and unusual species. Our new summer website and spring 2009 catalogue full of summer bulbs has 362 varieties, including 60 new, exciting and many unusual bulbs to add to the offer this year. We have had loads of fun choosing the collection. Our emphasis throughout has been on quality and size.”
P. de Jager & Sons, who has been in business for over 140 years, launched its new website last year, which had a huge impact on the business, and January 2009 sees the addition of a wholesale section. The new Spring catalogue will be mailed out on 2nd January and if anyone would like a copy they should email flowerbulbs@dejager.co.uk or ring 01622 840229 (fax: 01622 844073).
If this spring bulb article in December has set your seasonal clock in a spin, then to re-calibrate De Jager offered some advice on Amaryliss, a popular indoor Christmas bulb plant that proved very popular. You can read their advice here.
